This statue dubbed “Christ the Protector” – which is set to be 43 meters high including its pedestal – will surmount Rio’s iconic Christ the Redeemer by five meters in height. It has been under construction since 2019 in the city of Encantado, located in southern Brazil, and is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.
Some days ago, the head and the outstretched arms, spanning 36 meters, were added. A viewing platform and an elevator are also in the works.
The colossus is being financed by donations and is expected to cost around 300,000 Euros.
The idea to build it came from Encantado’s late mayor Adroaldo Conzatti, who died in March of COVID-19.
