The education system including the syllabuses were specifically introduced by the West to produce slaves who could offer services to their slave masters.It wasn't meant to produce Africa masters.
The history and literature we learn in schools are about the west and written by the West. Why did we have to learn Christopher Columbus, Vasco DaGama instead of learning about Rastafari, Nyabingi, Moors, Egypt Civilization, the Mau Mau freedom fighters and our brothers in the Caribbean? Why have the curriculum not been translated in our local languages just the way they did with the bible so that we could learn science in Yoruba, Kiswahili, Kikuyu, Dholuo,Shona e.t.c.
Why can't we learn more about our gold, oil, diamond and other minerals in Africa and how we can make use of them to develop Africa? We learnt about religion (Islam and Christianity) but we couldn't learn about Africa Spirituality.
For the benefit of this generation and for the future generations, we must decode our education system, let's PanAfrikanise our education system, let's teach our students Ubuntu,let's translate everything into our languages, let's spend very little time teaching English e.t.c.
Russians don't know English and yet they are rich, Chinese the same, Spain, France, Portugal e.t.c . English, French, Portuguese e.t.c won't help develop Africa infact, it hasn't and it can't, it will enslave us more.
As we mark Africa Liberation day this week, let do this if not for this generation, but atleast for the benefit of the next generation.
As I conclude, allow me to paraphrase some quotes," How can you convince people that education is the key while we have poor and jobless graduates" Mugabe.
"We embraced and learned more English and forgot about Agriculture that's why we speak good English with empty stomach and we beg for food inform of aid while we have arable land" anonymous.
