Nigeria needed penalties to see off Jamaica in the final of this year’s Unity Cup on Saturday. The game had ended 2-2 in regulation time.
Moses Simon opened the scoring with a fine finish off Cyriel Dessers’ cross, but the Raggae Boys levelled almost immediately through Kaheim Dixon. The Super Eagles again went in front, thanks to a fantastic solo effort from Samuel Chukwueze.
Again, Jamaica found an equalizer, with Jon Russell finding the back of the net in the 63rd minute. Kelechi Iheanacho, Simon, and Tolu Arokodare converted for Nigeria, matched by successful efforts from King, Hayden, and Morrison for Jamaica. The breakthrough came when Atkinson smashed his penalty against the crossbar, giving Nigeria a crucial edge.
Bruno Onyemaechi held his nerve to make it 4-3, and although Bell levelled for Jamaica, debutant Christantus Uche delivered the decisive moment. The young Getafe midfielder slotted home with confidence, sealing a 5-4 shootout win and sparking scenes of celebration.

It marked a memorable tournament for Nigeria, who had defeated Ghana in the semi-finals. Jamaica, managed by Steve McClaren, impressed with their resilience but ultimately fell short.
Wilfred Ndidi, who controlled the midfield with authority, broke up several Jamaican attacks, and came close to scoring himself, was named Player of the Match for his tireless and commanding display in the heart of the Super Eagles’ engine room.
This win means that Nigeria win the trophy for the second consecutive time.
