A mother of ten children, Jamila is a refugee from Somalia, living in a camp in Yemen. She's faced many challenges, but despite all managed to save money to buy a herd of goats, from which she sells milk and butter. She only makes a modest amount of income, but it's enough to care for her children, keep a roof over their heads, and food on the table.
In Yemen, 40% of more than 136,000 refugees are women, many of them, like Jamila, are single mothers and the sole breadwinner of their families.
UNHCR works to promote livelihoods and economic inclusion for refugees. We advocate for their right to work and support them in becoming more resilient and achieve self-reliance.
