Barely 14 months in the saddle, an English Premier League giants, Manchester United (Man-U) have allegedly sacked its Head Coach, Mr. Ruben Amorim.
This was disclosed by transfer news experts David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano in a post on X on Monday morning, January 5, 2026.
Darren Fletcher will take over coaching of the team temporarily.
Amorim was informed of his sacking by executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox.
Announcing the ouster of the Portuguese Coach, Ornstein wrote on X: “EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim as head coach. 40yo Portuguese informed of decision & goes with immediate effect after 14 months following breakdown in relations. Darren Fletcher expected to take over #MUFC on interim basis.”
Confirming Amorim’s sacking, Manchester United wrote: “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
It was gathered that his sacking followed his outburst after the club’s 1-1 draw with Leeds.
Tension over a lack of alignment in the market and a breakdown between Amorim and Jason Wilcox had risen in the club.
