The Grammy Award is a ceremony held yearly to recognize outstanding achievements in the music industry and was first awarded in 1959.
Since inception, it has been sought after by every artist as it stands a lifetime achievement award and the peak of success in the career of every artiste.
The Made in Lagos icon, known to fans as 'Machala' was also among artistes nominated for this lifetime award at the just concluded Grammys.
He was nominated alongside beautiful Afrobeat singer Tems for their song, Essence, which has since gained millions of streams all over the world and was the first Nigerian song to debut on Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200.
They were nominated amongst other artistes including Arooj Aftab, Yo-Yo Ma, Femi Kuti, Angelique Khidjo and Burna Boy for the Best Music Performance Category.
Wizkid was also nominated for Best Music Album Category for his latest album, Made in Lagos alongside Angelique Khidjo, Daniel Ho, Rocky Dawuni, Femi Kuti and Made Kuti.
The singer however did not bag any of the awards as they were won by Arooj Aftab and Angelique Khidjo respectively.
This caused quite a stir by fans worldwide and generated a lot of controversy as many believed he was well deserving of the awards in both categories.
Asides being nominated twice at the recently concluded Grammys, the Made in Lagos singer also won the award for Best Music Video for the song, Brown Skin Girl featuring Beyoncé, Saint Jhn and Blue Ivy at the 63rd Grammy Awards. The song received several awards worldwide as it affirms the beauty of dark-skinned women.
Wizkid remains an Afrobeat sensation worldwide and is definitely one artiste that keeps putting Nigeria and Africa as a whole on the world map.
