Since 2019, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day has been observed on 21st September of every year. This is to remember the first president of the Republic of Ghana and his efforts to rule out colonialism in Ghana and Africa. Kwame Nkrumah went from a poor family to become a lecturer at Lincoln University. He led the Gold Coast (Modern Ghana) to become the first African country to gain independence from colonial rule. Kwame Nkrumah survived 5 assassination attempts on his life and became Co-President of Guinea after he was overthrown in Ghana. He inspired many Africans to fight for independence and freedom.
