Ex Nigerian footballer Emmanuel Amuneke confesses that he was shocked when he was ranked CAF player of the year award.
Amuneke started his trade in Egypt with Zamalek fc winning with them the Egyptian premier league, and also play as a winger in Barcelona before hanging out his boot.
The 1994 CAF Player of the year award was one of the most contested in the history of Africa because alot of good and superb players are on the list, we have the likes of George weah, Rashidi Yekinni,Yeboah, Camara, Amuneke and many more.
But, however Amuneke who pligh his trade then in Egypt with Zamalek and also won the Egyptian premier league that year with his club Zamalek was crown the CAF Player of the year Award amongst it's peers in that year. Amuneke has now come out to talk about his disbelief about the award because he was shocked as he was called the winner of the Award.
“It was indeed a great moment for me,” Amuneke said
“I was not expecting it because, at that time, there were great players such as Rashidi Yekini, George Weah, Tony Yeboah, and Titi Camara. Back then, I was even playing in Egypt, not Europe.
“I am forever grateful for the opportunity and privilege to have been a one-time ‘African Footballer of the Year’. As players, we all aspire to be the best on our continent, so I was happy.”
