So Asherkine is trending. For those who don’t know, he’s a philanthropist who surprises random people, usually those who seem to be struggling, takes them out, gives them a good time, sometimes buys them things, and gives them huge gifts.
He recently met a lady at a restaurant where she works. They connected; he offered to take her from Ogun State to Lagos, but she said she needed her mother's permission. He asked if she had an international passport, and she said yes. He gave her a great time, shopped for her, even took her out of the country, to South Africa.
But Nigerians later found her on Instagram and realized she seems to be doing well for herself. Her lifestyle doesn’t match someone struggling in a small restaurant. So people are beginning to question the video, Asherkine, and even whether all his shows are scripted.
I’m not a follower of Asherkine; I only watched this because it was trending. But this shows how we often fail to question things. From the video, during their numerous outings, the lady didn’t act like someone meeting a stranger for the first time. She was calm, comfortable, and flowing through every outing, a random Naija geh who wasnt used to such a lifestyle won't give such a vibe, but we don't look at things critically.
She needed her mom’s permission to leave Ogun, did she call her mom before going to South Africa? The same person who “needed permission” for Lagos didn’t need it for a foreign trip or even to get a tattoo.
Social media is wíłd. Not everything here is real. We are very emotional, we don't pay attention to or question things. I checked the lady's IG, yes, she is not new to the lifestyle Asherkine gave her. — Eshi Ayo
