An Ilorin, Kwara state High Court has sentenced a-21-year-old Jatto Sheriff Umar to one-year imprisonment for impersonating the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg in an attempt to defraud unsuspecting victims via online relationship.
Others convicted with Jatto on offences bordering on cybercrime are Oguntoyinbo Oluwatobi Damilola (fake US military officers), Taiwo Akinyemi Kayode, Adebayo Adeola Mark.
Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had dragged the convicts to the court.
The defendants all pleaded guilty to their separate charge.
In his judgment, presiding Judge Mahmud Abdulgafar sentenced Jatto (Zuckerberg’s impostor) to six months imprisonment each on count one and two, to run concurrently at Mandala Correctional Centre.
He said that the sentences are suspended, but the convict would be reporting to an official of the correctional centre.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of his iPhone 12 pro, laptop and manager’s cheque, which he raised as restitution to his victims.
