Former Chelsea players Paul Canoville and Florent Malouda have spoken against the European Super League plans as the former sent a message to club owner Roman Abramovich.
Unsurprisingly, the current Chelsea players have all been pretty much silent over the club’s decision to take part in the new competition.
Even Thomas Tuchel, who had to answer some questions about the European Super League in his press conference this afternoon, opted to sit on the fence and “trust the club’s decision”.
But a couple of former Chelsea players, Canoville and Malouda, have expressed their disapproval of the breakaway competition.
Canoville has even pleaded with Abramovich to reconsider the club’s decision.
“I’m proud of the part Chelsea Supporters’ Trust are playing in trying to save English football and Chelsea FC’s place in it,” the former Blues winger wrote on Twitter on Monday.
“I’m heartbroken after the euphoria of the semi-final win.
“I hope Mr Abramovich can think again — it’s clearly Manchester United have caused this mess! #BoycottEuropeanSuperLeague.”
Malouda, on the other hand, has made it clear which side he is on.
“Can’t believe this is really happening, especially in these challenging times,” the former France international tweeted.
“I support and trust UEFA to take the right decisions to protect the game we love #BoycottSuperLeague.”
