Unknown gunmen reportedly attack polling unit in Imo State on the 14th of April, 2022, made way with thousands of voters cards and shot dead a staff of INEC, independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria, the body responsible for conducting elections in Nigeria.
The incident occurred during an ongoing voters registration exercise in the Ihitte Uboma local government area of the State.
It was gathered that these wasn't their first time in region and this time they did promise to set the polling unit ablaze if their demands were not met.
While some members of the public suspected them to be from IPOB, Independent People of Biafra members, the spokesperson for IPOB, Emma Powerful has come out to debunk the rumours and ultimately vowed to expose all those behind the acts in the region.
In his words, "We want to make it publicly known that IPOB and its security units did not attack INEC officers in Imo State. IPOB will not relent in discovering those behind this devilish activities and expose them. IPOB will never resort to armed violence and will not do anything that will bring discomfort and shame to our people."
