The Warri Kingdom, yesterday, held a commendation and funeral service for the late Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, at the Olu’s palace.
The commendation service, which is part of the 14-day burial rites for the late Olu, would be followed by traditional burial rites at Ode-Itsekiri the next day.
The burial activities will end on Friday, July 2, when his body will be committed to mother earth.
The well-attended ceremony, which was graced by prominent clergymen, dignitaries, sons and daughters of the Itsekiri nation from within and outside the country, was a solemn moment to relive the life and times of Ogiame Ikenwoli.
Ogiame Ikenwoli, who was the 20th Olu of Warri ascended the throne on December 12, 2015.
According to Chief Edward Ekpoko, Chairman Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, his ascension was one the most peaceful and celebrated in the annals of the Warri monarchy since about 1480.
On the occasion of his coronation, the late Olu of Warri promised to anchor his reign on peace and prosperity for all. He built bridges across other ethnic nationalities in Delta State and the country.
In the funeral sermon delivered by Rt. Rev. Dr. Curtis Fianu, and titled “What is life”, he defined Life as the condition that distinguishes the organic from inorganic.
He said life is a gift because man didn’t contribute anything to get life and would give account of how he used it.
