Former captain of the Ghana National Football team, Asamoah Gyan has made a comment about Luiz Suarez at the 2010 FIFA World Cup that has angered many.
Suarez saved his team during the 2010 world cup by blocking a goal Ghana was about to score with his hands.
He got a red card and Ghana was awarded a penalty but Asamoah Gyan missed and the game against Uruguay went to penalty shoot and we lost.
Speaking for the first time about the incident, Asamoah Gyan said he would have done exactly what Suarez did for his country if he was in his boots.
Gyan said “If it was me, I would have done the same thing. In the last minute, if you’re going out, he made himself a hero in his country. It was cheating to handle the ball, but I would do the same.”
Although he suffered the most for Suarez’s actions, Asamoah Gyan said he has forgiven him and moved on. He said, “I’ve forgiven him—it’s part of the game.”
Gyan explained that he went through a lot after missing that decisive penalty and he felt like taking his revenge when he met Suarez during a club match.
