President Buhari Appoints Buba Marwa to Head NDLEA
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa Rtd as the New Director-General, DG of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Gen. Marwa was until recently the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Drug Abuse.
Mohammed Buba Marwa was born on September 9, 1953 in Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He hails from Michika L.G.A of Adamawa State. He attended the Nigerian Military School, Zaria and the Nigerian Defense Academy, Kaduna. Later, while in the army, he studied at Pittsburgh University, where he obtained a master’s degree in International Relations, and he obtained a master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.
Recalled that Buhari through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, sacked NDLEA Chairman, Muhammad Mustapha Abdullah.
Buba Marwa is a retired Nigerian army officer who served as governor of Borno State, and then Lagos State during the military administrations of Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha.
He was well respected for his administration in Lagos where he improved the security situation in the state with the establishment of the Operation Sweep. His administration also introduced the use of tricycle as a means of transportation in the which not only improved the transport situation in the state then but also provided employment for people, thus, the tricycles were then aptly tagged ‘Keke Marwa’ a name that has sticked to them till today and entered the Nigerian English lexicon.
Marwa was also at a time, Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa.
